MICROSOFT OFFICIALLY UNVEILED SURFACE PRO 3: THE TABLET THAT IS DESIGNED TO REPLACE YOUR LAPTOP

Microsoft Surface Pro 3
Just moments ago, Microsoft has unveiled the much rumoured Surface Pro 3 which is claimed to be the thinnest Intel Core device ever made. Not only that, Microsoft has also boldly claimed that the Surface Pro 3 is the tablet that will replace your laptop.
So, what are the differences between the third generation Surface Pro has as compared to its predecessors? Well…a lot.
Surface Pro 3 vs MacBook Air 13
First and foremost, the Surface Pro 3 features a bigger display at 12-inch with an aspect ratio of 3:2 that mimics a physical magazine. Not only that, the resolution on Surface Pro 3′s ClearType display is also much more higher at 2160 x 1440.
As mentioned earlier, the Surface Pro 3 is also extremely thin for a full blown Intel Core-based device.  Its thickness is said to be just 9.2 mm which is only 0.2 mm more than the ARM-based Surface 2 tablet and 4.3 mm thinner than previous Surface Pro tablets. Not to forget, Surface Pro 3 is also quite light at 800 grams which is around 100 grams less than previous Surface Pro devices but is still slightly heavier than a Surface 2. Additionally, the back area of Surface Pro 3 is painted in silver which is identical to Surface 2.
In terms of processing power, users are able to choose either 4th generation Intel Core i3, Core i5, or Core i7 as the processor for Surface Pro 3 although the actual clock speed for each of these processors were not mentioned as of now. Users are also able to choose either 4GB or 8 GB of LPDDR3 RAM alongside 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB worth of internal storage, depending on the variant of their choice. The battery life for Surface Pro 3 is rated as up to 9 hours.

Microsoft has also equipped the Surface Pro 3 with a new kickstand. Instead of the two-stage kickstand from the second generation Surface tablets, the Surface Pro 3 kickstand can be angled at up to 150-degrees thanks to its friction-hinge. In terms of I/O port, Surface Pro 3 is rather similar to previously released Surface Pro devices as it is also built with a full size USB 3.0 port, Mini Display Port, and MicroSD card reader.

However, Surface Pro 3 also now features a set of front facing speakers that is apparently 45-percent louder than previous Surface tablets. Microsoft has also equipped the tablet with higher resolution 5-megapixels web cameras on both of its front and back, together with the built-in noise-cancelling dual microphone. At the same time, do note that the power port for Surface Pro 3 is totally different from first and second generation Surface device which means that the new Surface Pro 3 doesn’t support power adaptors from previous Surface tablets.
Like previous Surface Pro tablets, the new Surface Pro 3 also come an active stylus called Surface Pen but it is made by N-trig as opposed to Wacom digitizer that Microsoft used for previous Surface Pro models. The new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is available for pre-order in US and Canada on 21 May with a price tag starting from USD 799 (RM 2572) while it will be hitting retail store from 20 June onwards starting with the Core i5 models.
How about Malaysia then? According to Microsoft Malaysia, keep a look at around end of August. Yup, that’s right: Surface Pro 3 will arrive in Malaysia in just two months after its release in US. Believe it.
